Espeyran Castle

French National Archives

The site of Espeyran is situated 5 kms from the town centre and its existence has been traced back to the 6th century BC.

During the Middle Ages, it was the summer residence of the abbots of Saint Gilles and it became in the 19th century a residential castle amidst a great forest park. Inside the castle, the original period furniture has been preserved and the former stables house some beautiful examples of horse-drawn vehicles which have been listed National Heritage.
A State property since 1963, the Espeyran Castle is the most important conservation site for microfilms and digital images of the French National Archives.

The castle opens for specifics events during the year. Please ask at the Tourist Information Centre.
